With the declared state of emergency due to spreading wildfires in Western and Northern Canada regions, VIA Rail wishes to inform its passengers that in the event that we cannot guarantee safe operation, trains 001 departing from Toronto, 002 departing from Vancouver, nº 005 departing from Jasper and 006 departing from Prince Rupert might be cancelled prior to its departure or while en route, without offer of alternate transportation. Passengers would be contacted and informed of the cancellation. Please note that VIA Rail is closely monitoring the situation as it relates to safety of operations as well as air quality. However, as emissions from forest fires can travel large distances, passengers with respiratory problems are advised to take proper precautions and to inform themselves of the status of the air quality before departure. Furthermore, if the train does travel, it could incur a delay on route. Due to the nature of the situation, we are unable to estimate the duration of this delay.
