Modify or cancel a booking

Refunds and exchanges

  • Tickets are exchangeable and refundable prior to scheduled departure time according to our fare conditions.
  • Tickets are non-refundable and non-exchangeable after the scheduled departure time. Applicable service charges may apply.
  • If the value of your new ticket is higher than that of the original ticket, the difference in fares will be collected at the time of exchange, in addition to any applicable service charge.
  • If the value of your new ticket is lower than that of the original ticket, and your original ticket is also refundable, the difference in fares will be reimbursed at the time of exchange using the original method of payment, less any applicable service charge.

If you have a VIA Rail profile

  1. Log in to your VIA Rail profile (created when you purchased your ticket)
  2. Select: "My bookings" in the menu
  3. Click on the booking you want to modify to open the detailed view
  4. Under "Manage your booking", you will find all the options available to you:
    • Change/view your seat
    • Add/remove baggage
    • Change travel options
    • Modify date/time/class
    • Cancel your booking
  5. Click Modify or Cancel next to the trip you want to change

Log in to modify or cancel

If you modify your booking, a new boarding pass will be sent by email. Note that some conditions apply for a booking modification.

If you don't have a VIA Rail profile

You can modify or cancel a booking online by accessing your reservation with your First name, Last name and Booking confirmation number.

  1. Under "Manage your booking", you will find all the options available to you:
    • Change/view your seat
    • Add/remove baggage
    • Change travel options
    • Modify date/time/classs
    • Cancel your booking
  2. Click Modify or Cancel next to the trip you want to change.

In some situations, you may not be able to modify or cancel the booking on your own. For these exceptional cases, we invite you to contact one of our agents for personalized support. To do so, please call VIA Rail's toll-free number 1-888-VIA-RAIL (1-888 842-7245) or TTY 1-800-268-9503 (for persons who are deaf or hard-of-hearing). You may also go to the ticket office nearest you.

Exceptions:

  • A booking made with a certificate or VIA Préférence points can only be modified by an agent.
  • Cancellation of a Sleeper Plus class booking must be made by an agent. Modifications are limited online, however, they can be made by an agent.
  • Any changes to a booking that include a request for special needs, assistance or accessibility must be made by an agent.

Train Alert Service

By subscribing to the VIA Train-Alert service, you will be notified of delays and of any major schedule changes for your VIA train. Alerts are sent by email or SMS (text messaging).

Register
