Medical items

Allowed as carry-on baggage

The following medical items are allowed as carry-on baggage.

Passengers are required to carry their medication in their hand luggage or carry-on baggage.

Medical accessories

Medical supplies and accessories (CPAP devices, portable oxygen tanks, walkers, canes, wheelchairs, etc.) are permitted on board and will not count as one (1) piece of the carry-on baggage allowance.

Pressure ventilation devices for sleep apnea

These devices are subject to the following restrictions:

  • Limit of one (1) compressed oxygen cylinder per traveler.
  • The compressed oxygen cylinder must not exceed 91 cm (36 in) in length and 15 cm (6 in) in diameter (maximum volume of 16,000 cm3 or 1,000 in3).
  • It must be transported in a cart that protects the regulator.

Compressed oxygen cylinders

Travelers with respiratory problems can bring an oxygen concentrator or a compressed oxygen cylinder, on board the train. Compressed oxygen cylinders are subject to the following restrictions:

  • Limit of one (1) compressed oxygen cylinder per traveler.
  • The compressed oxygen cylinder must not exceed 91 cm (36 in) in length and 15 cm (6 in) in diameter (maximum volume of 16,000 cm3 or 1,000 in3).
  • It must be transported in a cart that protects the regulator.
  • They are not accepted as checked baggage on board VIA Rail trains.

Please note that medicine or medical items are not allowed as checked baggage.
