Associations and Organizations for Travellers
Associations or organizations for passengers needing assistance to travel.
Passengers who, because of the nature of their disability, after departure and before arrival, need:
(a) assistance with eating meals, taking medication, using the washroom;
(b) assistance with transferring to and from a passenger seat;
(c) assistance with orientation or communication; or
(d) physical assistance in the event of an emergency, including in the case of an evacuation or decompression.
Can apply to travel with a support person. These passengers must, however, provide a document certifying that they cannot travel alone and require a support person: the Request to Travel with a Support Person form or an identity card issued by an organization or association recognized by VIA Rail.
Here is a listing of these organizations and associations.
Passengers with cards other than those listed must contact us at 1 888 VIA-RAIL (1 888 842-7245) or TTY 1 800 268-9503 (for persons who are deaf or hard-of-hearing) for review.
