Battery-powered vehicles and devices

Batteries are accepted as carry-on baggage without any limit of Watt-hour (Wh).

Battery powered vehicles and devices include hoverboards, air boards, electric skateboards, air wheels, mini-Segway’s, balance wheels, battery-assisted bikes*, and electric scooters.

Important restrictions

  • The station employee can inspect lithium batteries at any moment;
  • Storing batteries in the passenger area is forbidden;
  • Connecting batteries to a charger on board is forbidden;
  • Lithium batteries must be stored in baggage areas only.

 

*Not accepted until further notice

Essential items (for long distance trains only)

These items are not limited to your maximum baggage allowance per passenger. This means that you can exceed your checked baggage allowance.

Fee: $5/item

Allowed on the regional trains (Toronto-Vancouver, Montreal-Halifax, Sudbury-White River, Senneterre, Jonquière, Winnipeg-Churchill, and Jasper-Prince Rupert trains).

  • Garbage and recycling bags.
  • Grocery bags
  • Oversized mail/package
  • Pharmaceuticals

Fee: $5/item.

Allowed on The Canadian, The Ocean, Sudbury-White River, Senneterre, Jonquière, Winnipeg-Churchill and Jasper-Prince Rupert trains.

Fishing and hunting equipment

Fishing and hunting items are accepted as checked baggage on long distance and regional trains (Toronto-Vancouver, Montréal-Halifax, Sudbury-White River, Senneterre, Jonquière, Winnipeg-Churchill, Jasper-Prince Rupert)

All fishing and hunting equipment must be stored in boxes (fishing rod in rod case, tackle box, worms or bait, tackle bag + reels, boots, fish bin, etc.)

  • Each box will count as one (1) piece of the checked baggage allowance.
  • Large animal carcass is also allowed ($75 fee).
