Go Transit Tickets Issued by VIA Rail

GO Transit services can now be sold with or without a connection to a VIA train.

GO Train tickets sold by VIA Rail are non-refundable and non-exchangeable.

Travellers must carry their VIA Rail paper ticket (which includes a coupon for the GO Transit train segment) or an electronic ticket / boarding pass (e-ticket) for the GO Transit segment as proof of payment when boarding a GO Transit train. GO Transit requires that you retain your proof of payment, as you may be asked at any time to show your ticket to GO Transit staff. Anyone travelling without proper proof of payment may be fined (the e-ticket issued by VIA Rail is an acceptable proof of payment).

Kids 12 and Under Ride Free on All GO Trains and Buses. There are no discounts for youth 12–25 and adults 60+ (senior).

The tickets issued for travel on GO Transit’s services are only valid for the train and date issued. However, if the traveller must take the next scheduled GO Transit train available due to a delay of a VIA Rail train, it is the traveller’s responsibility to advise GO Transit staff.

VIA Rail will not issue any credits for GO Transit trains that are late.

VIA Rail is not responsible for delays or modifications to GO Transit service.

GO Transit is a commuter train service – there is no checked baggage service on board their trains or at their stations and facilities. Passengers travelling on GO Trains during off-peak hours are limited to luggage they can carry; during peak hours passengers are discouraged from bringing any luggage on board, although baby strollers are permitted anytime on GO Trains. Please refer to the GO Transit FAQ page This link open a window for more information.

Accessibility to customers with limited mobility

VIA Rail employees can provide assistance to customers with limited mobility on VIA’s premises only. GO Transit does not provide assistance for those who are incapable of taking care of themselves or unable to board a train without assistance. These passengers must be accompanied by an attendant capable of helping them on and off the train without additional assistance, and this attendant can travel free on GO Transit services.

The vast majority of GO Transit’s 59 stations, including Toronto Union Station, offer accessible services. The only non-accessible stations on the three routes sold by VIA Rail are Clarkson, Long Branch, Mimico (Lakeshore West), Eglinton (Lakeshore East), Georgetown, Malton and Bloor (Georgetown).
