In exceptional circumstances, alternate transportation may be used to ensure connections between one or more of our stations.

VIA Rail offers travel credits for trips replaced by alternate transportation in the Québec City-Windsor Corridor only if the modification has been communicated past 6PM on the eve of departure.

The travel credit amount is based solely on the portion of the trip travelled by alternate transportation.

If you are travelling in Economy class:

• We will grant you a travel credit equal to 50% of the fare you would have paid to travel the same distance by train.

If you are travelling in Business class:

• You will receive a refund of the difference between your Business class fare and the Economy class fare as we are unfortunately unable to offer the Business service in alternative transport.

• We will also grant you a travel credit equivalent to 50% of the fare you would have paid in Economy Class to travel the same distance by train.

What you need to know about late train travel credits:

• This credit is applicable towards the purchase of a new train ticket within 12 months following the travel date of the replaced train.

• Only a VIA Rail agent can apply your late train travel credit to your new ticket.

• You need to keep your booking confirmation number for the replaced train.

• The travel credit is not transferable to another passenger.

• If you are a VIA Préférence member, you may contact our customer center to convert your credit to VIA Préférence points at the rate of 8 points per dollar.
