The Halifax Public Gardens

The Halifax Public Gardens are one of the finest surviving examples of a Victorian Garden in North America. Throughout its 16 acres, in the centre of downtown Halifax, visitors can enjoy historic fountains, a statuary, a network of natural ponds and live concerts in summer Sunday afternoons set among colourful flower beds and magnificent specimen trees. The Gardens were founded by the Nova Scotia Horticultural Society in 1836. Recognized as a National Historic Site in 1984, the gardens are a valuable resource in the study of heritage plants and landscape design.
