VIA Rail is one of the most cost-effective and easy methods of transporting luggage as you travel. To ease the process, don't forget to label each piece of baggage with your:
- full name
- complete home address
- and telephone number
In this section, you'll find details about VIA Rail's baggage policy and how to make the best use of our baggage services.
Please note that carry-on and checked baggage allowances vary from train to train. There are two ways to determine the baggage allowance for your train.
Consult our booking engine
- go to VIA's online booking engine
- enter your departure and destination stations
- enter your travel dates
- click on "Search"
A list of possible itineraries will appear. Click on the "Important information about this train” link, which will appear under your train number.
Detailed information about your train’s services will pop up, including:
- if checked baggage service is offered on your train
- how many items you can check as well as applicable size and weight restrictions
- additional services offered, including transporting oversized items and the costs of transporting pets or outdoor sporting equipment
