VIA’s Board of Directors is responsible for overseeing the strategic direction and management of the Corporation, and reports on VIA’s operations to Parliament.

The Corporation and its Board of Directors are committed to implementing principles and best practices of good governance. All members of the Board sign a code of ethics reflecting the spirit and intent of the Accountability Act, which sets out standards of transparency and accountability for the officers and directors of Crown corporations.
 

If you own a private railcar, it can be coupled to a few of our trains.

VIA Rail continues to haul private railcars at the tail end of some trains. Excluded are all trains with a panoramic dome car at its tail end, and those trains where it is not technically, economically or operationally feasible to couple a private railcar.

On those routes where service is available, you will enjoy VIA Rail’s impeccable service in the comfort and privacy of your own railcar.

BROCKVILLE (ON), October 13th, 2009 – At a ceremony in Brockville, Ontario, Leeds-Grenville Member of Parliament Gordon Brown, Acting Mayor Stewart Williams and Mr. Pierre Santoni, VIA Rail's National Sales Director, announced VIA’s plans for a new station with improved and expanded facilities.

Canadian Athlete Family and Friends Discount

• This promotion is applicable for a maximum of two (2) family members related to an athlete who is a member of Canada's 2010 Winter Olympic team. Family is defined as being the athlete's spouse or partner, mother, father, brother, sister, child, grandmother or grandfather. Proof of relationship is required.
• Valid for new bookings for travel between January 25 and March 28, 2010 inclusive (travel must commence prior to midnight on March 28, 2010).

Auditor General of Canada - Special Examinations

The Office of the Auditor General of Canada carries out special examinations of Crown Corporations once every five years. The most recent examination at VIA Rail Canada was done in 2008.
