Did you know?

  • The only locomotive from this series still in service with VIA Rail is used as a switcher at the Vancouver Maintenance Centre. Interestingly, it is also the first of the 6300 series! The oldest in this series - number 6305 - was built in March 1954.
  • Number 6309, an admirable example of this locomotive series, is on display at the Canadian Railway Museum (Exporail) in St. Constant, Québec.
  • Between 1983 and 1985, the 15 locomotives in this series were entirely rebuilt. Consequently, they were able to provide reliable service until the mid-1990s when VIA's gradual retirement of this fleet was complete.
  • Despite their 50+ years of service, many of these locomotives are still running on local routes in Canada and the United States.
