Update: VIA Service On Montreal-Toronto And Ottawa-Toronto Routes To Return to Normal Schedule Wednesday Morning

Service Interrupted Since Sunday Due To CN Freight Train Accident Near Cobourg
Alternate transportation remains in place until Tuesday evening

MONTREAL – VIA Rail Canada has announced that its trains on the Ottawa-Toronto and Montreal-Toronto routes are now expected to return to their normal schedules tomorrow morning, Wednesday March 30.  Service on these routes has been interrupted since Sunday, when an accident involving a Canadian National freight train near Cobourg, Ontario, closed the line to rail traffic. Some delays are anticipated on the first day of service resumption due to ongoing work at the accident site and some remaining congestion as freight trains also begin to move over the rail line again.

New bookings for travel over these two routes (Montreal-Toronto and Ottawa-Toronto) will now be accepted for travel Wednesday and beyond.

Alternate transportation will continue to be provided until Tuesday evening for passengers with existing reservations.

All other trains in the Ontario-Quebec corridor are operating normally today, including the Montreal-Ottawa route.
