VIA Train 71 strikes pick-up truck, derails five cars at Glencoe, ON

MONTREAL –   At approximately 10:45am today, VIA Rail passenger train 71 struck a pick-up truck at a crossing west of Glencoe, Ontario, derailing one locomotive and four passenger cars. The train was travelling from Oshawa to Windsor.

All cars on the train remained upright. There are no reports of serious injury to any of the 99 passengers and seven crew members on the train at the time.

Local emergency services have responded to the incident site.

VIA will be providing alternative transportation for passengers to their destination.

Other VIA trains on this route today may be affected. Passengers are advised to check with VIA to determine how their travel may be affected.
