VIA Train No. 61 involved in collision with truck near Belleville, ON

Toronto - Friday, March 18, at approximately 15:30, VIA train no. 61 en route from Montreal to Toronto carrying 432 passengers and 8 crew was involved in a collision with a truck at a level crossing east of Belleville, Ontario.

Preliminary reports indicate a few minor injuries on board, the condition of the truck driver is unknown at this time. Emergency services are at the scene. The train is unable to proceed and alternate transportation is being arranged for Train 61 passengers who will arrive at destination likely with significant delays.

Other VIA trains between Montreal, Toronto and Ottawa could also be affected by this disruption for the next several hours.
