Night work to relocate fiber optic cable near Belleville train station

Belleville, March 9, 2011 - VIA Rail Canada and CN have recently started to relocate fiber-optic cable along the rail line adjacent to Airport Parkway.  This work, which must be done overnight for safety and operational reasons, will take place between 466 Airport Parkway and Elmwood Drive, and should be completed by April 15.

Every effort will be made to keep noise to a minimum.

Weekly work schedules can be viewed at viacorridor.ca. This information will be updated every Monday.

This project is linked with other work VIA is undertaking throughout its Ontario - Quebec Corridor with the overall result being improvements in train safety, additional frequencies and better on-time performance, as well as reductions in travel time. All of this work, including construction of a new station, adds up to better passenger rail service for travellers and communities like Belleville.

Should you have any questions or comments, please call VIA’s toll-free inquiry line at 1-866-757-6778. Information regarding this project and related ones is also available at viacorridor.ca.
