VIA service between Montreal and Toronto expected back to normal by noon Tuesday

Alternate transportation in place until then

MONTREAL – Due to an accident involving a Canadian National freight train near Cornwall, Ontario, Monday morning, VIA Rail Canada will continue to reroute its Montreal-Toronto trains, in both directions, via Ottawa, or in some cases replace its trains with bus service this evening and Tuesday morning. VIA expects normal service to return on this route by midday Tuesday.

As a result, VIA wishes to advise passengers to expect delays of up to approximately two hours in total trip.

Passengers to and from Cornwall will be provided with alternate transportation when rerouted trains bypass Cornwall.

VIA has also had to temporarily suspend new ticket sales on all trains on the affected route, until noon Tuesday.

VIA wishes to apologize for any inconvenience and for the expected delays this disruption may cause to its passengers. Customers wishing further information may check for updates at viarail.ca, or call 1 888-VIA RAIL (842-7245).
