CN accident disrupts VIA service between Montreal and Toronto


MONTREAL – Due to an accident involving a Canadian National freight train near Cornwall, Ontario, this morning, VIA Rail Canada is either rerouting its Montreal-Toronto trains, in both directions, via Ottawa, or in some cases is replacing its trains with bus service. VIA expects the accident will affect all of today’s trains operating on the Montreal-Toronto route and possibly into Tuesday.

As a result, VIA wishes to advise passengers to expect delays of up to approximately two hours in total trip time.
 
Passengers to and from Cornwall will be provided with alternate transportation.

VIA has also had to temporarily suspend new ticket sales on all trains on the affected route.

VIA wishes to apologize for any inconvenience and for the expected delays this disruption may cause to its passengers. Customers wishing further information may check for updates at www.viarail.ca, or call 1 888-VIA RAIL (842-7245) .

VIA will issue an update as new information becomes available.
