Celebrate Canada Day 2009 with VIA Rail Canada

Take a Family Train Ride to Ottawa this July 1

OTTAWA – VIA Rail Canada detailed its plans today for the July 1st 2009 Canada Day celebrations in the nation’s capital, with a decided emphasis on family.

With a host of activities planned, everyone in the Ottawa region is invited to enjoy the celebrations and surprises under VIA’s Canada Day tent at Majors Hill Park. Visitors can get an autograph from paralympic athlete Benoît Huot, chat with this year’s EnviroExpo finalists (www.viaenviroexpo.ca) – recently back from the Canada-wide Science Fair in Winnipeg, catch a magic show or two, take a ride on VIA’s miniature train and much more.

“VIA’s involvement in the Canada Day festivities is a natural outgrowth of the fact that a unified Canada was built in part on the promise of a rail system reaching from coast to coast,” said Paul Côté, President and CEO of VIA Rail Canada. “Today that system provides an economic lifeline and unique way, for Canadians and visitors, to explore this country’s vibrant cultures and astounding natural beauty.”

VIA offers frequent daily train service to Ottawa from Toronto, Montreal and other destinations in Quebec and Ontario. Special discounts are available, including VIA’s popular Kids Travel Free plan, effective from June 1 to September 15. For more information or to reserve tickets customers can visit viarail.ca or call 1 888 VIA RAIL (842-7245).
