VIA Rail Canada Labour Talks with the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference

With respect to reports of a strike vote at the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC), VIA Rail Canada has announced that it is in fact currently in negotiations with that union. The TCRC represents some 340 locomotive engineers. The next round of talks is scheduled to take place from July 20 to July 24.

VIA is anxious to reach a settlement and to avoid any potential disruption to the travel plans of its customers.

All VIA services continue to operate normally. However, should talks break down, the union is required to provide 72 hours’ notice of any intent to strike. If this should happen, VIA will immediately notify the public and take measures to ensure that passengers will not be stranded en route in the event of a disruption to services.

Customers with inquiries concerning their individual travel plans may contact VIA at 888 VIA-RAIL (842-7245), 800 268-9503 (hearing impaired), or check for the latest news at viarail.ca.
