MONTREAL–  VIA Rail wishes to advise passengers traveling on the Montreal-Gaspé line that the Société des chemins de fer de la Gaspésie (SCFG) will temporarily close the railroad track between New Carlisle and Gaspé.  Repair work will be carried out on the bridge crossing the Grand-Pabos River in Chandler.

Therefore, that section of railroad track will be closed for several weeks or until workers have solidified the bridge seat.  Inspections performed last week revealed serious damage to one of the piers.

VIA Rail passengers who use the train service between Montreal and Gaspé will be provided with the services of a motor coach to ensure travel between New Carlisle and Gaspé, until such time as the bridge is reopened for service.
