Update: VIA Service On Montreal-Toronto And Ottawa-Toronto Routes Still Interrupted Due To CN Freight Train Accident Near Cobourg Sunday

MONTREAL – Due to an accident involving a Canadian National freight train near Cobourg, Ontario, shortly after noon Sunday, the rail line remains closed to rail traffic.

Beginning Tuesday morning, VIA will resume partial train service between Montreal-Kingston and Ottawa-Kingston only. Passengers travelling to/from points west of Kingston (e.g. Toronto) will transfer at Kingston to/from a motorcoach.

Some trains on the affected routes will continue to be replaced by motorcoach service for the entire journey.

New bookings for travel by train over these two routes (Montreal-Kingston and Ottawa-Kingston only) will now be accepted for travel Tuesday and Wednesday. New bookings for travel on all routes is available for travel Thursday and beyond.

These measures are now in place until the evening of Wednesday, March 30.

All other trains in the Ontario-Quebec corridor are operating normally, including the Montreal-Ottawa route.
