Train 692 to hold in Thompson to facilitate track work program

Winnipeg – June 28, 2010 - VIA Rail Canada wishes to advise travellers that due to significant track improvement and upgrading work by the Hudson Bay Railway (HBR), the track owner, VIA's southbound train from Churchill to Winnipeg will be affected. Communities between Thompson and The Pas should take special note of the train’s new departure times.

In order to accommodate the summer track improvement program on the Thicket subdivision, beginning June 30th VIA’s southbound train 692 will arrive in Thompson every Sunday, Wednesday and Friday at 1p.m. and depart at 5:30 p.m. Customers travelling to Winnipeg can take advantage of the train’s stopover in Thompson to tour the area. The extended station layover time is not expected to significantly affect the train’s arrival time into Winnipeg, and customers are advised to visit viarail.ca or call 1 888-VIA RAIL (842-7245) for updates.

For a full list of arrival and departure times, please see the attached schedule.

VIA wishes to apologize for any inconvenience these schedule changes may cause to its passengers. Passengers are advised to call 1 888-842-6348 to determine the status of the train prior to arriving at their stop. Customers wishing further information may call 1 888-842-6348 or 1 888-VIA RAIL (842-7245).

As this work program is expected to last through the summer months, VIA will issue updates if required.
