VIA arranging for alternate transportation – Expect Delays

MONTREAL, Tuesday, March 30th , 2010 (4 p.m.) - VIA Rail Canada wishes to advise travellers that all its afternoon trains between Montreal and Toronto and Ottawa and Toronto are affected by a CN freight derailment which occurred this afternoon near Oshawa, Ontario.

VIA has not yet received confirmation on a time for line clearance and is unsure if this derailment will affect trains tomorrow.

VIA is arranging for buses for all affected trains.  Average delays of two to three hours are expected.

Passengers may opt for a full refund or change of reservation with no service charges.

Passengers are advised to call 1 888 VIA RAIL (1 888 842-7245) for more information.

VIA wishes to apologize for any inconvenience this disruption, which is beyond VIA’s control, may cause to its customers.
