Current schedule to remain in effect

Winnipeg – VIA Rail Canada wishes to advise travellers that the current operating schedule for its Winnipeg to Churchill service will remain in effect until further notice. VIA had announced some changes to the service it provides to communities in Northern Manitoba that would have gone into effect this week-end. These changes will not take place at this time.

VIA is attempting to contact all passengers with confirmed reservations on its Winnipeg to Churchill service to advise them that the current schedule will remain in effect and to ensure that they have the correct departure/arrival times of their reserved trains.

The decision to retain the current schedule means that the planned train service between Thompson and Thicket Portage and Thompson and Gillam will not take place. Due to contractual issues VIA was unable to put this schedule into effect at this time.

VIA’s Winnipeg to Churchill current schedule is as follows:

Winnipeg-The Pas-Churchill (twice-weekly)

  • Northbound train 693 departs Winnipeg every Sunday and Tuesday at 12:05pm and arrives in Churchill every Tuesday and Thursday at 07:00am.
  • Southbound train 692 departs Churchill every Thursday and Saturday at 7:30pm and arrives in Winnipeg the following Saturday and Monday at 4:45pm.

In addition to the above two weekly round trips, communities between The Pas and Churchill are also served by an additional weekly round trip.

The Pas-Churchill only (once-weekly)

  • Northbound train 693 departs The Pas every Friday at 02:30am and arrives in Churchill at 07:00am
  • Southbound train 692 departs Churchill every Tuesday at 7:30pm and arrives in The Pas at 11:30pm.

Customers wishing further information, or to reserve a ticket may call 1 888-VIA RAIL (842-7245). Bookings may also be made on-line at viarail.ca.

Prior to travel passengers are advised to call 1-888-842-6348 to determine the on-time status of specific trains in Northern Manitoba only.
