Stations article

A couple of years ago, London Station’s platforms were in a sad state. The island platform’s asphalt surface needed to be removed and repaved, and the structural steel holding up the canopy was in serious need of attention.
Capital Investment funding to the rescue!
Through the CIP, London Station got the care it needed. The base of each column was excavated, and the structural steel was repaired, strengthened and in some cases, encased in a concrete base.
The old asphalt on the island platform was removed, and a fresh new layer was applied.
Along with all that, a new hydro feed and two wayside power panels were installed to eliminate locomotive idling, conserve fuel, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
London Station work was part of a program to reconstruct and extend existing station platforms and parking lots at eight locations in Southwestern Ontario, all funded through the Capital Investment Program.
